How do you want your kid to be coached? As a pro how do you want to be coached?
Thought this was a great description of coaching…
Have this thought of coaching as a TECHnician
TEACH – I want (my kid) to be taught.
ENCOURAGE – I want (my kid) to be encouraged.
CHALLENGE – I want (my kid) to be challenged. (sometimes this means correction)
HONEST – I want you to be honest with me (my kid). Real authentic feedback that promotes learning and character.
Coaching is not talking, although it can be. Coaching is not yelling, although it can be. Coaching is not criticizing, although it can be.
Coaching is AUTHENTIC COMMUNICATION that takes people (players) beyond what they think they are capable of individually and collectively.
Coaching is caring for people (who happen to be players) and building character in and through sport.
